App Smashing: Design Challenges for Building Powerful Lessons

Audiences: Pk - 2 Teachers , 3 - 5 Teachers , 6 - 8 Teachers , ES School Leaders
Levels: Intermediate , Advanced

Session Description

This session will begin with a brief overview of key tools, strategies, and templates. Participants will then participate in a series of collaborative design challenges where they will be asked to incorporate 3 - 4 tools & strategies into a lesson. Small teams will work together to maximize their "ingredient list" to build student tasks that require creativity and incorporate higher order thinking skills. Teams will share their lesson designs in a community Google doc and discuss how they tackled the design challenge.

Participants will leave with a collection of tools, strategies and ideas for how to immediately incorporate them into their classrooms.

Tyrone Jefferson

I am Tyrone Jefferson. I'm employed with Kennesaw State University as an Educational Technology Specialist. In this role, I partner with Henry County Schools to work with elementary schools on implementing technology into their Personalized Learning environments. I have over 11 years of educational experiences; ranging from teaching 7th Grade Science and Social Studies to 2nd grade. I received my B.S. in Elementary Education from Benedict College in Columbia, SC. Followed by my M.Ed in Educational Technology from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. More recently, I completed my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University. Education is something that I hold dear to my heart, and technology finds an extra place there as well. It has been my dream and goal to encourage, assist, and support others with technology integration. Today, I am happy to be fulfilling that dream, and hope to continue to reach more individuals soon.
