PBS LearningMedia: A Blended Approach to STEM

Audiences: Pk - 2 Teachers , 3 - 5 Teachers , 6 - 8 Teachers

Session Description

This session will begin with a brief overview of PBSLearningMedia and its tools, including lesson maker, storyboard, quiz maker, and puzzle builder. Participants will create an account and explore PBSLearningMedia with a focus on STEM resources on their self-selected paths: grade span task searches, storyboard creations, or exploration of Cyberchase and STEM Alive resources.

District Information

Johnston public schools is considered an urban ring district. Seven schools, including 4 elementary, and early childhood center, middle school, and high school support about 3,300 students in grades PK, K-12.

Deb Ramm

Deb Ramm is the Johnston Public Schools Instructional Technology Coordinator and a National Board Certified Teacher.
She is a PBS Lead Digital Innovator (2015) and All Star (2018). She is also a 2014 awardee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science and developed a STREAM program for her fourth grade students. She is a Fuse RI Fellow, coach, and advisor. Deb recently received the Highlander Institute “Unsung Hero” award and ISTE’s “Making IT Happen” award in 2018.

Deb's work was recently acknowledged in a Getting Smart podcast entitled “Network Effects Fuels Personalized Learning in Rhode Island.” She has appeared as a guest on the Meet Education Project Podcast and in a segment for PBS RI Classrooms.

Deb is an advocate for personalization through blended learning, has opened her doors as a lighthouse classroom and continues to showcase JPS teachers and students as lighthouse classrooms for districts throughout the state. You can follow Deb on Twitter @Deb_Ramm.
